Flights to Zimbabwe

Your route to Zimbabwe, handled by a specialist

The UK is home to one of Zimbabwe's largest diaspora communities, and the majority of passengers on this corridor are visiting family and friends. Demand spikes hard in December as people return home for Christmas and New Year, and again over July and August during UK school holidays. Seats fill early on both peaks, so leaving a booking late is costly.

From 1 July 2026, Air Zimbabwe operates a nonstop Harare to London Gatwick service several times a week, using an A330-200 widebody on a wet-lease arrangement with Plus Ultra. For passengers in the south of England this removes a transit stop entirely. For everyone else, established one-stop connections via Johannesburg, Nairobi, Addis Ababa and Dubai continue to operate from Heathrow, Manchester and Birmingham.

Routing advice matters on this corridor. Travellers heading to Bulawayo need a domestic connection from Harare or a Johannesburg routing. Those visiting Victoria Falls can fly into Harare and connect, or come via Johannesburg and on to Victoria Falls airport directly. A specialist handles all of that so you get the right itinerary rather than the most obvious one.

Real people, real routes, sorted by a specialist who picks up the phone.

After my flight was unexpectedly cancelled by the airline, I was understandably very stressed. Dominic took ownership of my case and handled everything from start to finish with outstanding professionalism. His service was truly 5-star: efficient, responsive and incredibly supportive throughout. Despite how busy things must be with the number of airline cancellations at the moment, Dominic made sure my issue was resolved smoothly and with a positive outcome. A big thank you for such exceptional service. I am a very happy customer.

Why people travel

Why people fly to Zimbabwe

Reason 01

Visiting family and friends

The majority of UK passengers flying to Zimbabwe are visiting family. The community is spread across London, Birmingham, Leeds and other cities, and many families maintain strong ties to Harare, Bulawayo and smaller towns. Whether it is a routine visit, a wedding, a graduation or a bereavement, flight specialists handle all of it, including multi-passenger family bookings where everyone needs to travel together.

02

Christmas and New Year homecoming

Reason 02

December is by far the busiest month on the UK to Zimbabwe corridor. Zimbabwean families across the UK travel home for the festive season, and the seats fill fast. The pattern is consistent year on year: availability tightens from October, and prices rise sharply as December approaches. If you are planning Christmas travel, September is a sensible point to enquire. Waiting until November typically costs significantly more.

03

Victoria Falls and safari tourism

Reason 03

Victoria Falls is one of the most visited natural sites on the continent, and Zimbabwe's national parks, including Hwange, draw safari travellers from the UK every year. The dry season from May to October is the prime wildlife viewing window. Victoria Falls airport (VFA) is the direct entry point for the falls; Hwange is accessible by road or light aircraft from there. Routing advice on this corridor is genuinely useful, and a specialist can save you both time and unnecessary stops.

04

Business travel

Reason 04

The UK and Zimbabwe have an active business relationship, and a smaller but consistent segment of passengers on this corridor travel for work, meetings or investment purposes. Flexibility on dates, corporate fare access, and help with multi-city itineraries are all areas where an agent adds practical value over booking direct.

Tips that get you a better fare

  1. Book December travel by September

Christmas is peak season on the UK to Zimbabwe route. The Zimbabwean diaspora community makes this one of the most congested African corridors in December, and seats on preferred departure dates are often gone weeks before departure. The Air Zimbabwe nonstop from Gatwick adds capacity, but demand is high. If you are planning to travel in late December or early January, contacting a specialist in September gives you the best chance of securing the seats and fare you want.

  2. Check baggage allowances before booking

VFR travellers on this route often carry gifts, clothing and personal items. Baggage allowances differ substantially between Air Zimbabwe, South African Airways, Ethiopian Airlines, Kenya Airways and Emirates. Excess baggage charges can be significant. A specialist will confirm the allowance for your specific ticket class and airline before you commit, so there are no surprises at check-in.

  3. Victoria Falls and Bulawayo routing

Neither Victoria Falls nor Bulawayo has direct international flights from the UK. For Victoria Falls, you can fly into Harare and take a domestic connection, or route via Johannesburg and connect to VFA airport directly. For Bulawayo, a domestic hop from Harare is the standard approach. The right routing depends on your travel dates and how you want to move around the country. This is exactly the kind of itinerary that benefits from specialist advice.

  4. Flexible dates reduce cost outside peak periods

February is typically the lowest-demand month for London to Harare flights, and May to June and September to October are generally quieter than the summer and December peaks. Shifting your travel by a few days around a flexible window can make a noticeable difference to the available fare. When you request a quote, mention if your dates have any flexibility and the specialist will factor that in.

FAQs

Flights to Zimbabwe: your questions

Still unsure? Give us a call.

Is there a direct flight from the UK to Zimbabwe?

Yes. Air Zimbabwe relaunched nonstop flights between London Gatwick and Harare from 1 July 2026, the first direct service in over 14 years. The route operates several times a week on an A330-200 widebody and takes approximately 10 to 11 hours. One-stop connections remain available from Heathrow, Manchester and Birmingham via Johannesburg, Nairobi, Addis Ababa and Dubai for passengers not using Gatwick.

How long is the flight from the UK to Harare?

The Air Zimbabwe nonstop from London Gatwick to Harare takes approximately 10 to 11 hours. One-stop routes vary: via Johannesburg is typically the shortest total journey, around 14 to 16 hours depending on the layover. Via Nairobi or Addis Ababa is usually 15 to 17 hours total. Via Dubai with Emirates is typically 18 to 19 hours.

Which UK airports have flights to Zimbabwe?

The Air Zimbabwe nonstop service departs from London Gatwick. One-stop flights to Harare are available from London Heathrow, Manchester and Birmingham, connecting through hubs in Johannesburg, Nairobi, Addis Ababa, Dubai and Doha. If you are travelling from a regional airport, a specialist can find the best connecting routing for your departure point.

Which airline is best for flying from London to Harare?

It depends on your priorities. Air Zimbabwe from Gatwick is the only nonstop option and eliminates a transit stop. South African Airways via Johannesburg is popular for its competitive total journey time and well-timed connections. Ethiopian Airlines and Kenya Airways are frequently competitive on price. Emirates via Dubai is well-known and serves passengers from multiple UK airports. We can compare options across these carriers for your specific travel dates.

When is the cheapest time to fly to Zimbabwe from the UK?

February is typically the lowest-demand and most affordable month for London to Harare flights. May to June and September to October are also quieter periods with better availability. December is the most expensive month due to peak VFR demand, followed by July and August during UK school holidays. Booking early is the single most effective way to secure a better fare, particularly for December travel.

Can I fly from the UK to Victoria Falls?

There are no direct international flights from the UK to Victoria Falls. Most travellers fly into Harare and take a domestic connection to Victoria Falls airport (VFA), or they route via Johannesburg and connect onward to VFA from there. The right option depends on your travel dates and onward plans. A specialist can work out the most practical itinerary for a Victoria Falls trip.

Can I fly from the UK to Bulawayo?

There are no direct international flights from the UK to Bulawayo. The standard approach is to fly into Harare and take a domestic connection to Bulawayo, or to route via Johannesburg if there is a suitable onward connection available. We can advise on the most practical routing for your dates.

When should I book flights to Zimbabwe for Christmas?

As early as possible. December is the peak travel period for the UK to Zimbabwe corridor, driven by the Zimbabwean diaspora returning home for the festive season. Seats on preferred departure dates can be gone weeks before Christmas, and fares rise sharply from October onward. If you plan to travel over Christmas or New Year, September is a good point to enquire and secure your booking.

Can you help with urgent or last-minute flights to Zimbabwe?

Yes. We handle last-minute and bereavement travel to Harare and across Zimbabwe regularly. Availability on short notice can be limited on this corridor, so calling us directly gives you the fastest access to what is currently in inventory. Phone +44 161 669 6266 for an immediate response.

What is the baggage allowance for flights to Zimbabwe?

Baggage allowances vary by airline and fare class. Air Zimbabwe, South African Airways, Ethiopian Airlines, Kenya Airways and Emirates all have different policies, and excess charges can be significant on a long-haul route. VFR travellers who carry gifts or personal effects should confirm the exact allowance for their ticket before travelling. We will confirm this when booking.

Do I need a visa to visit Zimbabwe from the UK?

UK citizens generally require a visa to enter Zimbabwe. Requirements and procedures can change, so we recommend checking the current guidance via the UK Government travel pages and the Zimbabwe Embassy in London before you travel. We can point you in the right direction, though visa processing is your responsibility.

Can you book flights to Zimbabwe for a group or family?

Yes. Group and family bookings to Harare and Zimbabwe are a significant part of what we do, particularly around Christmas and for family events such as weddings and funerals. Getting a group on the same flights with adequate baggage and the right routing requires agent access and experience with this corridor. Request a quote or call us to discuss your group's requirements.
